New Nano-Chromatic iPod Nano 8 GB in Kuwait

The new iPod nano (only 8 GB) is now available in Kuwait at Virgin Megastore and Digits. I just checked the Apple UK Store (since Kuwait prices are usually close to UK’s) and found that the 8 GB is for £109 without shipping (which is equivalent to 52 KD). I was surprised to see Digits selling it for 59 KD only! while Virgin sells it for 72 KD. which is a rip-off!

I think Digits are improving and that’s a good sign, their price is only 7 KD+ and trust me, if you order the iPod and ship it (you will pay shipping to UK then to Kuwait) it will cost you more.

Digits have all colors in stock besides the yellow, orange and red models.

Call them on 2224 47 93 (Marina Mall branch), 2573 58 15 (Galleria 2000 Mall branch) or 2393 02 10 (Al-Kout Mall branch).

Local Apple dealers rip me off but I’m happy

I want to connect my macbook to my TV and I can’t find a way to do so, see…

I have big ass TV (for a student abroad anything above 29″ is big) and a good creative 5.1 surround system.

The only problem is that my TV can only accept S-video or VCA plugs, so I googled and found this at the Apple store, the Apple Mini DVI to Video Adapter for £15 which is fine.

Now my problem is that the Apple store keeps rejecting my credit card, and It’d need a week to arrive and I’d pay around other £6 for shipping, so I’d rather get it from the local Apple dealers, I called Digits Galleria 2000 but they won’t pick up, tried with iCity but they don’t have it anymore. I called Digits Marina to find out they have it for 15 KD, I guess I’m buying it today after Eftar. No other choice!

Egypt will not NOT have the iPhone released

Posted: July 28th, 2008 | Author: Moey | Filed under: Apple+Mac | Tags: , , , | 37 Comments »

As many of you don’t know unless they’ve been to Egypt or are Egyptian, the famous Nokia n95 is banned in Egypt, the reason is because of its GPS capabilities.

Now, a reader left me a comment yesterday (Thanks Bassel) saying:

There is one little problem regarding the introduction of iPhone 3g into the Egyptian market through a legitimate channel such as being subsidized by Mobinil or Vodafone; it is GPS.

Owning a GPS device is illegal in Egypt. The N95 has been banned from entering Egypt. It has of course been smuggled and sold on the black market, but in no way been sold through any official outlet.

That is why I believe apple do still have a long way negotiating with the Egyptian ministry of communications before the iPhone can be released through mobile carriers.

Until then, if and when an unlocking trick comes out, iPhone 3G will be sold illegally on the black market as well.

Well, this is sad news! It is even common in all mobile stores in Jordan, whenever an Egyptian enters or they hear of someone traveling to Egypt, they recommend buying the n95 because it is banned in Egypt and you can probably sell it for a good price or give it as a valuable gift.

So let me get it straight, the Nokia N95 is not sold in Egypt neither the iPhone, none of the distributors have it on sale because it has been banned by the government because it has GPS.

All GPS devices are illegal in Egypt. Yes, lots of people own them and use them, but they are illegal. A lot of people have radar detectors which are illegal, yet they own them and use them.

Owning and using something is sometimes not relevant to whether it is legal or not.

Now this is messed up! Anyways, according to Apple’s website, the iPhone will be available at Orange (which is Mobinil / Orange Egypt) and Vodafone locations across Egypt. Which means there’s probably one near you.
