Touristically speaking, Jordan is safe

December 23rd, 2011

Of course it is Safe.

Many of you, specially those of you News TV addicts watching Al7aqeera Aljazeera all day! I don’t blame you, I blame them… they want to sell, so the perfect recipe is adding trouble to a headline mixed with images of protests and people beaten up, the link to our lovely neighbours and so…

I want to you be sure that Jordan is 100% safe with all the fake visuals and the damage you see on TV. Amman is probably one of the safest cities in the world.

Dear tourists… don’t worry, you’ll enjoy a safe trip to Jordan!

It’s been a while since I had to explain to someone how safe it is to visit our region, specially Jordan despite some deadly serious incidents involving Amman over past few months, thanks to the trend that started in Egypt, Tunisia and Libya all-combined, things are still pretty much the same here in Amman, safety-wise. Jordan is safe, some people just trended protesting for a reason or not, and clashes happen as usual, it turns out everyone is a fan of Fight Club.

Yes, despite what you might have been reading in your newspaper, or following on Al-3ebreyya Al-Arabia or Aljazeera, Jordan is safe to visit! Some “journalists” are probably money craving in our society, of course with the help of international media dramatic stories show up, war-zone like interviews… you name it! as it long as it pays better.

Do they show how beautiful Petra is? how challenging Wadi Rum trips are? Golden sand in Aqaba? Ma’in Springs? The Dead Sea? The Baptism sites? Mount Nebo?

The answer is NO! Why? Because they want our tourism to break down, they know the importance of the big influence that our tourism adds to our economy, they don’t want us to generate any higher income for the state.

I wish some foreign visitors/workers who live/work now in Jordan to tell people how amazed they are to find Amman safer than their own cities. I personally know tourists who visit regularly from the GCC and in contrast to life there which basically ends by sleep late watching TV every evening, they are always amazed at how cities like Amman evolve fast.

Of course, protestors will protest, because you can’t satisfy everyone. Of course, things might happen. Shit happens everywhere, not only in Jordan or so… 9/11 anyone? Got the picture?

In Jordan, security comes first. Our malls are fully secured, our streets are filled with cops who work longer shifts in summer to protect us, so with all this security, you should feel safe, although you’ll be already feeling that.

Remember, Media plays a big role in hyping up everything and overdoing things, specially Arab news TV stations, which are mostly unprofessional…

Can’t wait to see you all enjoying Ramadan with us this year! Love Jordan.

Although I agree with you with the point that media is overdoing things, exaggerate and so on, but I don’t agree with the point that it is something related to Arabic media, being not professional or so….it is all over………when I watch German TV here, I really get another picture of Jordan, a terrible one most of the time, although I am actually Jordanian and know it better than no where else.
The guys in the media want to have something to do, they are probably bored, and what they bring is mostly boring or repeated, they feel like they have to involve some action to keep people into it, otherwise Money is gone.
That is just my opinion, some ask me, so where are you supposed to get your information from, I say no information is better than wrong info……….I stay careful before believing what I hear.

And, sure….Jordan is very safe….you are definitively right.
Excited about the next Post on your website…..

Amman is 99% safe, you can get your wallet stolen and a lady can still get her purse snatched from her while walking in the street. Shit like that wasn’t all that common in the past

But yes, tourists are extremely unlikely to get hurt, physically. We had less tourist murders in 2010 than in any other year :)

Typically Jordanian. Pretending everything is fine and that only a few are unsatisfied.

Jordan might not be a war zone, and it may be safe. But lets not pretend that its in any good condition.
