Dead Sea Experience: Mövenpick Resort & Spa Dead Sea

July 3rd, 2011

As I promised in my last post, here’s an update about this Fridays’ stay at the Mövenpick.

I used to visit this hotel at least 5 times every summer, for pool access only! Anyways, I decided to try the Mövenpick Resort & Spa Dead Sea located in Swaymeh as well. The rate was great, I was able to book 2 rooms for 125 JDs each.

When I first arrived and wanted to check in, there was only one booth for checking in and 4 for checking out, but since it was busy, the employees didn’t mind helping out and checking me in at all, suddenly the hotel manager came in and introduced himself, then told me that he read my blog posts and is really hoping I enjoy my stay.

I went to my favorite pool as usual right after checking in; to find seats, clean towels and less crowded besides being not over occupied for the sake of letting more people in. The room was spacious, big than Marriotts’, Also had a small balcony with couches, and it was just great, had a big LCD with a great selection of OSN and other paid TV stations. Everything was clean, but the A/C was a disaster in both rooms, I think it is because the hotel is just old now and since they’re renovating it soon I hope they take care of the A/C units because they’re helpless. I left a card in the room to keep it on for around 6 hours, yet it failed to cool the room. Also, I like the fact that the rooms are built in villa-styled like spanish villas but the stairs out of rocks felt like climbing into a room instead of going up, I hit my knee and thank god it didn’t bleed or bruise.

I can say the hospitality and friendly service covered for the mistakes, I mean it. Woke-up next morning, went down for breakfast and I must admit that It wasn’t my favorite. The guy who’s responsible for making pancakes is not friendly at all, thank god he didn’t hit me with the pancakes when I asked or fried my face, also the guy making eggs in all sorts is not friendly and doesn’t understand a simple request like: Eggs with extra cheese please!, instead I got plain tasteless eggs. The pancakes guy was like his translator all the time, couldn’t get a single request right! The service and food variety is much better at the Marriott.

Overall experience: Great place if you’re into a spanish-villa styled room at the villages, if not then it is not your thing. However, the spa and the pools are worth it and the hotel management as well, besides being up to all suggestions and feedback. Rates 3.5/5 on my scale. Follow @MoevenpickJo for great customer care.

For some reason I don’t see why anyone would want to spend the night at the Deadsea anymore, honestly, Amman is a 30 minute drive from the Deadsea, and there isn’t anything you can do at night there anyway. I am more of a Marriott kind of person. Their rooms are okay, not as spacious as the ones at the Moevenpick, however to me, Marriott is just more hip and classy when it comes to proper customer service. The Moevenpick may be romantic for a weekend gateaway, but I think their only advantage over Marriott is the pools, because at the Marriott you kinda feel like your swimming/tanning infront of everyone who’s dining out side. Great post Moey, keep it up

I agree with you. I’d only do it for the pools to be honest. for better rooms, I’d go for the Marriott. I even enjoy food there more!

I think much more should be done in the whole dead sea area to attract tourists, night life to start with, and more things to be done day & night in the area outside the hotels for one not to feel imprisoned in the hotel / resort he/she is staying in

    I agree with you Ayman,

I love the energy of the sretet scenes. The sneak peak view is really cool too not your typical show and tell promotional video. I can’t wait to check this hotel out when it’s done.
