Because of this… no new films will be shown in cinemas in Amman

UPDATE: CUSTOMS ARE SAYING PRIME IS LYING. DON’T KNOW WHO TO BELIEVE NOW!

Break news! Prime Cinemas regret to inform you that for the 3rd consecutive week, No new films will be released in Jordan because Jordanian customs authorities have imposed a new customs charge on film rights. No similar charge is imposed in any other country! The result is that major Hollywood studios and films producers have boycotted Jordan and will not send any new films to the kingdom until this matter is resolved!
Where is the Royal Film Commission‘s action regarding this? the e-goverment all over twitter? That’s why we haven’t gotten the chance to see Transformers 3, Bad Teacher or the Hangover 2? That is insane and needs to be solved now!
read Lara’s point of view here.

i guess even “air” in jo will have custom fees in the near future!!!

A friend just said this is happening at many levels, way to destroy an economy. What there is of it.
Green lantern, surfs, transformers…………… its been 11 months now and they didnt isse the new customs fees, but for now its almost amonth now and all themovies ae at the airport, till when!!!!!!!!!!1 no one knows!!!!!!!!!
Not totally true, they didn’t boycott Jordan, Prime are the ones refusing to pay the Customs, Grand cinemas are having mew movies each week, they had two new movies today !!!!
I just called Prime cinemas, and the woman who answered told me there won’t be any new movies until after 3 weeks from now ..
However, i called Grand cinemas and asked, they don’t seem to know anything about it, and said Transformers 3 will take 2 weeks to be here!! 2 weeks !!! why?! a friend of mine also called and confirmed this.
The only movie wanted to see was Thor but the greedy distributors only got the inferior 3D version where you watch a subpar product but pay a higher ticket price. No Thank you. None of these movies are worth the price of admission. Let them disintegrate at the customs counter.
Incompetent government with primitive thinking as to how to address the budget deficit – they should start by getting rid of all these fancy cars that buy for themselves using taxpayers money…
[...] As you probably previously read this. The forth week has started, Grand Cinemas are showing a year old movie as a new release and Prime doesn’t have any updates, I don’t think the new Harry Potter will play at the theaters, unless it plays tomorrow. window.fbAsyncInit = function() { FB.init({appId: "134336429941887", status: true, cookie: true, xfbml: true}); }; (function() { var e = document.createElement("script"); e.async = true; e.src = document.location.protocol + "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js"; document.getElementById("fb-root").appendChild(e); }()); Tweet Subscribe to comments Comment | Trackback | Post Tags: [...]
Well i believe that this decision was made by people that never go to the movies and see it as a luxury, i think it was an idea to increase taxation on goods that are considered luxurys inorder to decrease them on other goods that are no,, like rice bread etc….
unfortunately they didn’t expect this,,, they expected like everything else we the people would pay and that would be that…. i am thinking that if the right more senior people in the government find out about this they would revise it,,,, i am sure if the rulling family hear about this they would do something as i am sure they are movie goers,,,,,,, so i guess the solution is to make enough noise and hope that one of the princes is a harry potter fan and would like to see the movie in public cinemas with the rest of us.
