Is Team Y&R/Wunderman Jordan in trouble?
September 17th, 2010
You readers have probably checked this post before.

I was just wondering… I think Zain played it nice with JWT, Orange with Team Y&R boosted the publicity. My question is, since I become from an advertising background and that I worked on Zain’s advertising a year back…
When Zain or Orange (or any telecom in general) advertise for any brand highlighting or using their logo, like for example when Zain created ads for Nokia (the recent E5 campaign) or Blackberry devices… I know and based upon handling the advertisements as an Art Director, that it is required that Nokia or Blackberry approve the design and copywriting of the ads before giving the telecom (Zain or Orange in this case) rights to publish the artwork. Cool?
I worked on this before and I know how it goes. I personally think someone should report that Orange ad to Apple. Because Apple here in getting involved in bashing a potential clients in the Middle East, Zain corporation… Apple would never approve to bash or attack another brand, because they are potential clients as many of us heard that Zain Kuwait will be selling the iPhone 4 officially.
So technically speaking, I don’t think they approved this ad, Team Y&R, Wunderman Jordan can get in deep trouble for this if it is true, along with Orange. Unless Apple approved this, which means that they are ready to lose Zain as a potential partner in the Middle East. If Orange wanted to do this, they should’ve never put Apple in the middle.
Zain played it perfectly, indirect without attacking the brand directly, an Orange is a fruit and the ad didn’t contain any devices nor sponsorship logos, smart and clean.
I can’t wait for an official answer from Orange, Y&R or Wunderman.
Sorry to break it to you bro, but Arab/Middle East telecom have no leverage vs. Apple.
If Apple bashes Zain and then sells them the iPhone – I doubt Zain will turn that offer away
What else do they have? BlackBerry? Well guess what: their BB service sucks anyway. And they do not have any Android phone because HTC has no time to look into a small market that will barely generate revenue.
Furthermore, I don’t believe Zain will be offended by Apple. Its a Orange vs. Zain thing and not Apple/Orange vs. Zain/whatever devices they have.
Zain could shock you my friend, the Gulf is bombarded with Apple products. it matters. Zain at least improved their prepaid BB service the past month, really huge improvement.
Yeah I heard that they did.. Won’t be in Amman till Christmas to test it out. Does it re-subscribe you every week without the need of calling them?
Umniah is releasing Blackberry in November…
Well yeah the gulf is bombarded with Apple products – but its all from the US/UK. Nothing is official. If Apple came to Zain and offered official products, Zain would NEVER say no because that will lower the price A LOT for the consumers.
Who told you? KSA’s Mobily had it official. check Apple itself
Many countries did actually, the service doesn’t subscribe you automatically but it tells you when it ends now, doesn’t stop out of a sudden, more stable.
Umniah? Blackberry… I doubt it man! any source to rely on?

Well, I think Apple is not going to waste its time on the carriers in Jordan, because simply they have a lot of stuff to take care of. Apple will never care about this “battle” if it’s a real battle, because they care about their product, to sell units as much as possible and the rest is just outside the field.
