Is this really the most pressing topic to discuss about Jordan & the Middle East ?!
If you are going to vlog about life in Jordan & the Middle East (as you said) it seems it’d be more fitting to talk about issues that are more of interest to Jordanians & Middle Easterners; no ?
The suggestion is to not do it in case you end up harming those folks unintentionally.
The main reason most religious people are homophobic is because religions (at least according to them) considered homosexuality a sin.
Do you things gays in the middle east should tell people to accept them as gays despite the fact that religions consider them sinners, or try another approach that some do in trying to convince people that relgions really did not consider homosexuality a sin and they were unclear when discussin homosexuality (at least lesbianism)
Thanks for taking the time to clear that and taking the initiative to openly talk about it Moey.
Concerning homosexuality in whole, is it a choice? Do you think sexual orientation is a choice? should accepting homosexuals be based primarily on respecting choices in choosing a sexual orientation or do you think its something out of one’s hands that homosexuals are wired this way. I would like to hear an opinion.
Is there more to homosexuality than sexual orientation? Does it have to do with self portrayal and perception? It’s not just about sex. What are the difficulties that homosexuals face in ME?
za3tar; it is an important thing, some countries in the middle east treat different people like shit.
bambam; no harm at all.
Hareega; will answer your questions in the videocast.
Tala; great discussion here
will of course answer it all in the videocast.
removed by request.
First lets clear something, i’m against the whole gay thing and i don’t care if someone is or isn’t
True the quran didn’t say anything about homo’s but it only talked about man and women not the other options . God created Adam and Eve not Steve … I don’t recommend you talk about it … your gona get a lot of hate and just plain headache.
Here is a topic … everyday life in Jordan/Arab country.
looking forward to it … what happened you said it was gona be a weekly thing.
I admit, I am a bit homophobic. I won’t show it though, like if I meet someone, I don’t really care or treat them in any way based on their sexual orientation. As Tala was trying to discuss, I think theres more to it than just sex. I think its a lifestyle.
I am not religious, at all. But I for sure know that its a sin in all religions (that I know of), and that could be the main reason I am homophobic.
I know that my opinion doesn’t matter because in the end everyone’s free, but my perception to it is that its wrong, although I am very open minded, more than most of the people in the ME. So what do you think people who are a lot less accepting to ones who are different feel about it?
They are treated differently, everywhere in the world, and in the ME, they are not exposed to begin with, but if they once were, they will be discriminated against awfully (if not exterminated in some sort of way), and thats what I think is wrong.
You think its wrong, but they think its not. Who are you to decided anything for anyone but yourself. People need to mind their own business for a change.
I think that this is a really good topic, it will give people an idea about what the Middle East thinks of homosexuals, and hopefully its a step further to helping us be more accepted!
Moey can you please ask if people actually think if we will eventually be accepted or not?
I also hope that you bring up the fact that people (at least in Jordan) keep saying that homosexuals are like that because they want to be like the “West” which is soooo false and ignorant! thanx!
No offense anaaw … are you gay?
You wont get accepted on the simple fact … its against our culture … and worship, u would probably get away with it underground.
Please explain how its false and ignorant? … how?
Peace .. nothing against gay … just in the ME people have a different overview … its not accepted in some west countries how will it get accepted in the ME?
… i take back wot i said … good topic to talk about
like what u started here!
homosexuality whether its female/female or male/male, Accepting its culture that they r living in & facing religious views, or whether its an act of God they became like that, 3a2lon be rason,bay3rfo 5alason
I seriously hate it when people justify homophobia with that religion did not approve of it. Okay fine, it didn’t, whats it to you? Like you follow everything in your religion? Who are we to judge?
People do not choose to be homosexual any more than they choose getting cancer. And if there was a “cure” for homosexuality, don’t you think people would’ve taken it already rather than face the humiliation and discrimination they do. There’s no need to make everyone the same, so let’s just learn to accept the differences as long as they don’t harm us and move on.
good topic, moey.
you should talk about the process of coming out: to family/friends/everyone…
cheers
@Farah
Hey … don’t go mad on me … Do what ever you want … just sharing my view. I’m not gona stop people from being gay or make it hard for them … its their life
@Sabeur
just because the people of the middle east have different views on certain topics, doesn’t mean they should be stuck in time: culture evolves and it evolves to support a more civilized society. The middle eastern culture should evolve to accommodate people who are not necessarily the same in some aspects. Sexuality should be a background to the way you communicate with people, not a screen that blocks you from seeing the more important side of people.
