New Dance Technique: TekTonik

Posted: February 19th, 2008 | Author: Moey | Filed under: Amman, Jordan, Music | Tags: , , , , , , , , | 40 Comments »

I just saw this on CNN, and it turned out to be 3 months old, It is a recently invented dance called TekTonik, they say it’ll be the next dance crazed for by teens to express themselves with their movements.

This is how it is:

Canal+ vidéo reportage en français:

My definition of Tektonic: A new style of underground dancing originating in France, combining popping and rave style on filthy and eletro beats, requires high energy and lots of arm movements and shuffling feet.

I’m planning to learn it since I already dutty wined.

My favorite video:

Care to start a cult in Amman?

Imagine a group of 20-30 people doing this shit, thats just stupid!!!
Or imagine a whole dancefloor doing those weird moves hahahaah!

mm.. I dont like it. It’s not smooth moves its chaotic ones that don’t pleasure the mind, infact may cause more stress nor they eye. It’s like ooo becareful, almost twisted an ankle there :S But anyway, say no more, cult. gets to Jordan pretty rapid. no worries lol

First time I saw the Tektonik was in the remix version of Yelle’s A Cause Des Garçons music video. I fell flat on my face the first time I tried to do it..seriously.

1st video: Dude, whats with the trousers??

2nd and 3rd: I find no kind of creativity nor innovation in it. I really tried hard:D but seriously move around a bit more or some more techniques, it seems to have a lot of repetition in itself

  10. 10 Nizar said at 5:07 AM on February 21st, 2008:

The music is good but the moves seem hard and take a lot of practice to perform, for me its not worth the time and effort it takes.

I would rather learn how to make my self some good pasta than one of these moves.

This is awesome. All abouts expressing freedom on the dance floor. great way to get fat tubs of lard off their couches to burn some of those and listen to some great house.

a lot of tektonik is what you could have seen 20+ years ago and all through the 90’s in a lot of places in the U.S….. nothing earth shatteringly new by any stretch. most of it came from Chicago and Detroit, and as house music became more popular everywhere else, people picked up on the moves. and no doubt it probably came from some other styles of dance before house music, too (what has been known as “jit” in Detroit is probably 50+ years old).

there is nothing new under the sun, as the old saying goes.

i think it’s cool, though….it’s inspired by old school with it’s own flavor. most of the tektonik dancers i’ve seen on Youtube look pretty good – the French are most definitely up on things, as usual when it comes to house music.

  15. 15 Moey said at 9:33 PM on April 16th, 2008:

True Nunya, I agree.. the french are the best when it comes to house music!

  16. 16 Lils said at 7:05 PM on April 27th, 2008:

TeKtonik is really famous in Belgium and in France… you can see people doing it everywhere, at every moment ! that’s really nice, even if i wouldn’t like to do it myself… and jumpstyle is really present as well =) that’s just a new fashion, as all the fashions before, it’ll be gone in a year…

  17. 17 Loren said at 9:35 PM on April 27th, 2008:

It looks pretty cool, like others have said, French are the best when it comes to house.

After watching Bokko(bokgo) dances on the WEB, these Tektonik moves look rather lame to me. It shows no dynamics of energy surging from dancers. Maybe the types of music(house/rave/eletric and etc) have such characteristics. No disrespect but the moves resemble a strugle of Octopus out the water.

lol it took me like 1 month to be able to dance tecktonik, it’s quite a cool dance, especially love the music.

Vavan’s my tecktonik role model, haha, he’s freakin’ amazing!

At first, I learned different moves from different people, then once i saw vavan, i started changing my teck dance style to his way of dancing.
