so I heard Zain wants to sue me!

For those who don’t know I designed the Bezzain logo (that can be related to Zain or not, its up to you). and now I heard that Zain is trying to sue me for mocking them up.

Let’s see my response from now, so they don’t waste their time nor mine:

  • The Zain logo is not copyrighted, it doesn’t have the © nor the ®.
  • At least half a million people did different mock-ups and even made profit of them (some are attached, continue the post).
  • The design I did contains nothing of the original artwork, the circles were re-illustrated by myself on Adobe Illustrator and the gradient effect was also added, and both are different from the original Zain logo if you want to compare them, I can support with my original file.
  • The font I used in my logo does not exist, because simply I drew the characters inspired by Zain’s.
  • I also offered it online as a JPEG for free and did not charge people for it.
  • I don’t think it is any artistic, Madonna is not that fun for me. It might be good for gay people (LGBT in general) since it matches their obsession of pink, purple and that level of green and also the slogan “A Wonderful world“… heavy Ace of Base inspiration, not the fact that Madonna might be a straight good artist.

So there you go, sue me…

Btw, the design was shown to CEOs, GMs, High leveled employees in different Zains (Jordan, Kuwait, Iraq & Lebanon so far) and they laughed, instead they told me to spread it because this will cause them more success and exposure.

The files I promised (click thumbnail for larger):
*files were from google, facebook and other engines by several different people.

That’s a good one:

Oh please I’m a student, support me with extra cash and order my T-shirts, every penny counts as sponsoring good things in life, such as me and my designs :P

I don’t agree with the Madonna part, for many reasons, but I won’t bother getting into it.

But yeah, I see no reason for suing you. Lots of people mock logos for fun.

  7. Kuwait Mark Says:

    1) no one at Zain wants to sue you.
    2) The logo is copyrighted/trademarked. You don’t need to have TM or R next to it. Duh!
    3) Your bezzain logo is based on the original zain logo even if you didn’t use the original logo for your design you are still using the likeness of the logo which is enough
    4) You are charging people for your tshirt which is based on the Zain logo so if we were in the states and these tshirts were selling by the millions they might consider suing you
    5) I highly doubt the CEO or GM or whoever at zain told you to spread the logo

  8. Jordan Amino Says:

Moey… Mark’s right you know. The fact that they’re using the logo right now offers a valid copyright. They can sue, for copyright infringement is: unauthorized use of material which is covered by copyright law, in a manner that violates one of the original copyright owner’s exclusive rights, such as the right to reproduce or perform the copyrighted work, or to make derivative works that build upon it. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright_infringement)

The question of whether they will sue or not, is a matter of luck. There are a gagillion cases of copyright infringements around the world, on t-shirts, mugs, TV, and even movies.

  9. Kuwait Moey Says:

Like mark said I did not use the logo
