another Taxi trip..
As usual, I went to NBK (in shmaisani) to pull some cash, and met my friend Aryana (happens to be half Ukrainian half Jordanian) there.. we needed a ride back to Queen Rania Street (University of Jordan street.. how come no one uses then new name?).. anyways, the taxi sign (the one on the roof with a yellow light) had the word Taxi written “Taxsi” instead, we waved and the guy stopped.. Now, me and aryana couldn’t stop laughing since we got in the cab, the guy had Quran on EXTRA-HIGH-LEVEL and the volume, sound system were noisy.. I bet the bass is like on max. anyways, the guy didn’t like me nor my friend much, I mean look at us.. I’m wearing a torn up trouser, a pink benetton T-shirt and an earring, and my hair is blonde while my friend looks typical ex-USSR type, light skin and dark black hair with kinda-goth make-up, he didn’t like it since we entered laughing and he kept looking at us saying: “Astaghfarallah”, “La hawla wala quwwata ella bellah” and “Allahumma eghferlana”. and we kept laughing harder, Now.. I kept trying to piss him off, now we reached our end, he dropped us.. the tarrif reached 1.700, so I wanted to act stupid and ask him how much is it? he told me 1.700 lira inshallah? I was like: eh fesh eshe esmo inshallah. ya AH ya LA2, and dropped 2 JDs in his face!! Ok, It might sound offensive but he’s an extremist and I after all enjoyed a funny taxi trip in Jordan.
Now, feel free to call me whatever in your replies, last things I’ve been called so far are an american wanabee, a metrosexual and gay.. feel free to say whatever you want, there’s a “delete” option there always. and there’s I-leave-comments-to-tease-people-as-well.

Come on Moey, that was rude on your part! Regardless of what looks he was giving you, you shouldn’t have thrown the 2 JDs in his face! that was not nice at all!
More importantly, how do you gather he’s an extremist?
long beard, short dishdasheh, aggressive? he saw us before stopping, iza mesh 3ajbo he shouldn’t have stopped first!
Salam ,
LOL, OK Moey I want you to think with me very openly about this.
1- You assumed he didnt like you because they way you and your friend dressed. So you think he pre judged you because of your alternative looks.
Ok, I have news for you; Lets assume he did and you are right, he pre judged you. Well you did too, you prejudged him and called him an extremist cause of the way he dressed.
So you are committing the same sin.
2- Now that both of you “prejudged” the other, he is still nicer than you because he was not rude to you as you were rude to him.
In the end , you are going to meet alot of ignorance in life Moey and the answer is never to memic them.
Allah yehdeek, inshallah, estaghferoAllah, La 7awla wala qowata ella billah..
LOL
LOOOOOOOOOL
Khalid walak ma 5allana ne3raf ne7ki.. kol ma ne7ki eshe, he goes estaghferoAllah, La 7awla wala qowata ella billah..
LOL
as if we’re having sex, not talking.. wallah!
The man jobs is to be a taxi driver by providing a nice chill service from point A to point B.
It might’ve been his space / his car but that doesn’t allow to have the power to judge the customers, wheater by looks or just in general.
Moey I have to say did chill and swallow the shit but in the end justice had to be done.
Personally I believe that both moey and the driver were wrong.
Respect is hard to acquire these days and unfortunatley in the arab world, it doesn’t exist.
and oh,
Moey i’m starting to love your blog on an increaing level, daily wise.
You should start to posting more to entertain us.
Buttermilk
Welcome ButterMilk,
the problem here is even taxi drivers take anything personal.
for example: if you do not sit next to hit, it’s as if you cursed at him or something
I am not going to comment about your behavior in the “Taxsi” otherwise i will sound like a mom and you would not like it…
Anyway, this was a funny post, i think you are a fun guy to hang around with…take care!
wouldn’t an extremist do something extreme like not even stop to pick you up … or even kick you out
give the man a break … he’s just trying to make his bread and butter for the day … or wait a minute: mock him first through non-stop laughing, then before leaving, make him feel like crap by throwing money ‘in his face’ …
… but that’s
Hey moey! why dont u just go buy a car! love u blogging spirit!
uhmm, maybe you don’t believe in what he believes
but at least have some respect. I thought you’re
civilised, but you’re playing Arab, LOL
I have to agree with Iman…
So in what way was your behaviour any better than his?
I’m a guy and i have to say that some taxi drivers in Jordan are total assholes, and i would have to say if i had the courage i would do exactly what you did. Like i’ve been in the same situation many times when i’m dressed fully normal clothing but am with a girl in a taxi. They’re like giving the both of us looks.
And i hate it when they have the Koran on loud, i dont want to lsiten to it, if you want to listen to it do it on your own time. It is like imposing islam on me and on other non moslems. Some taxi drivers are total weirdos as well. The governemnt should have undercover cops monitering drivers.
muhannad, he picked us because he needs money to live and we’re human beings to deliver..
I won’t give him a break. ma da5alo 3ala esh ana bad7ak, ana ma ashart 3alaih, I didn’t even mention it.
Oula Farawati, 5alas you buy me a car haha
thanks!
onzlo, my behavior you mean? typo
my behavior was better, I didn’t offend him or made joke out of him or even talk to him, my own freedom is to talk to my friend in the car.
omar, men ay man6ega ef american 7adertak inwaladit?
Jordanian guy, thx man.. wallah same feeling
thx mama Summer
leish ana 7akeitellak ana Amreeki ishi?
walla inta illy you claim you’re not an Arab?
i was just referring to the temper…
that’s it,
omar
lol tayyeb baba sanfoor
Man! If I Were that Taxi Driver … Ya zalameh bsharafak enta mabsoot 3ala 7alak?
HAHAHAHA! That’s hilarious!
Well, if I were you, I’d actually start saying mashalla and stuff like that.
One night, my friends and I were leaving Prana, and heading to my friend’s place, so you know, we were wasted. 2 guys and a girl. I sat up front, and the guy was like asking about Ramadan and stuff, so I was like, inno we prayed all night on laylat el kadr, and I kept on pretending to be religious and all; the guy went bizzerk. It totally got on his nerves. This way, you’re not really insulting him, but you’re actually putting him at his place.
P.S. How can one be both metrosexual and gay at the same time? And anyway, the term metrosexual, is used for single men, above the age of 30. So if they’re pretending to be smart, it ain’t workin’!
(something to ponder about for those losers who leave comments on your blog)
I guess that it is not right to drop money to him but sometimes u cant control it.
Any way this is life, sometimes u do right somtimes u do wrong, and u will be lucky and smart, if u could control yourself and your reactions all the time.
I am saying this and me myself regret somtimes my reactions but again i am humanbeen.
I do use inshallah alot but somtimes it bothers me when ppl do not use it in the right way, or use it to avoid a direct answer. Example of this when u ask sombody if he will do somthing for you and his answer would be “inshalla” (he meant he will think about it) ppl who are certain would say yes i will do it inshallah.
Good luck next time with Taxi in Amman
ok. i do not know whom you called the “extremist taxi dude” (that might sound like a good name for a movie like the movie taxi driver), and i only know you by your blog. so, i do not think that he was nice and at the same time i do not think that what you did was nice too. so i will call it a tie or an eye for an eye! And you know what I would have probably done the same thing and not “turned the other cheek”. Peace, love and Mlokheah, whatever that means! Later people.
first let me congratulate you for you great blog i have been a devoted reader for almost 2 months now and i think your blog is amazing
i never thought of dropping a comment before but i think i should tell you this
consider it an advice and i hope you take it..its not a shame to take advices i am 15 years older than you
i have earrings too
i am pierced and i got tattos all over my back
i am athiest/ fundamentalist atheist
i am 100%liberal
i am biesexual and live with my gf
but yet i wouldnt act like you did
i found your reaction a lil bit exaggerated and rude….
i am not saying he is not wrong
i am saying you are as wrong as he is
extremist is the one who find it impossible to accept other types of people
both showed two types of ignorance and each one of you look an extremist for the other one
to proof that you are not “the-opposite extremist” you should respect others and be polite to them no matter how much they pissed you off
and hey
being long beard, short dishdasheh, aggressive is not enough to call him extremist
Did he kill innocent people? he is just religiously strict
you can go ahead and call me baba sanfoor but please think again at what you did
i agree with iman
keep up the good work man….peace
Well, if he was an extremist Idon’t think he would give you the ride in the first palce. The short dishdashe and long beard do notnecessarily mean he is an extremist. You yourself hate it when someone criticises the way you dress, he also has the right to dress himself as he wants without being called an extremist! If you say he was aggressive, you reacted to that by being rude to him… ya3ni wa7deh be wa7deh, he can judge you and you can judge him, but niether should
maybe ola
sorry, I am really surprised from all the people who answered before me. Both parties opinions should be present before commenting on this post.
